The purpose of this study is to evaluate pediatric psychiatric patients who visit Emergency Departments. This study will be performed retrospectively and longitudinally over the years 2010-2012 at two separate institutions: 1) UCI (a university based hospital) and 2) Long Beach Memorial Medical Center (LBMMC - a community-based hospital). We would like to analyze boarding times (length of stay) longitudinally and to investigate if there are differences when compared to the chief complaint of the psychiatric visit, patient insurance type, demographic factors, time of day of the visit, day of the week of the visit, or seasonal variations. All patients who arrived in the ED at LBMMC and UCI between May 2010 to May 2012 between the ages of 3 and 17 for psychiatric reasons will be studied. Existing charts and records will be used in our retrospective study design. Six hundred (600) subject charts total will be enrolled (300 from each institution).
