About Me

Serge Tobias, M.D., is medical director of electrophysiology at the MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Long Beach Medical Center.

An expert in the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal cardiac rhythms, Dr. Tobias addresses the heart's electrical problems in several ways, including drug therapy, radiofrequency catheter ablation, and the implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators.

He also specializes in the extraction of malfunctioning or infected devices and leads. Currently, he's heading up a study to determine if a new type of pacemaker will benefit heart failure patients who have an abnormal cardiac rhythm called AV block, as well as a study to evaluate extraction of specialized pacemaker leads.
