About Me

Kevin O’Brien, M.D., is the medical director for Pediatric Sedation Services at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach. Dr. O’Brien provides comprehensive care for patients whose condition may be life-threatening or who may require constant monitoring. These conditions include critical illness, severe infection, poisoning, trauma, extensive surgery, congenital abnormalities and immunological disorders.

Dr. O’Brien graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Ill., and completed his residency and fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He continues his service as a member of the Miller Children’s PICU Steering Committee, PICU Careline and General Pediatrics Careline. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Thoracic Society and American College of Chest Physicians.

He has been published in various critical care medical journals with topics including critical pertussis in pediatrics and pediatric ICU H1N1 influenza capacity surveillance activity.

Dr. O’Brien is highly active in academic activities at Miller Children’s & Women's with clinical interests including pediatric traumatic brain injury, pediatric intubation and post-op cardiac ICU care.

Dr. O’Brien currently is involved in a major clinical trial for the treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
