On Thursday, June 15, 2023, in Laguna Hills, Calif., The Women’s Hospital at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its new Obstetric Emergency Department (OB ED) and commemorate the Women’s Hospital’s 35th Anniversary. The new OB ED will work in conjunction with the main Emergency Department at Saddleback Medical Center to fill a gap in emergency maternity care in South Orange County by providing prompt and high-quality maternity care to patients who experience obstetric or non-obstetric issues while pregnant or newly postpartum. Providing this emergency obstetrical care is redefining the standard of hospital-based women’s services giving community members peace of mind knowing this additional comfort and support is available to women 24/7 year-round.

The new OB ED which has already been seeing patients is bringing greater access and more innovative maternity care to the community. The newly built OB ED room features four beds, state-of-the-art equipment and skilled OB-GYN physicians, as well specialty-trained OB nurses, providing the community with the highest level of emergency maternity care that is needed in Orange County

The new OB ED offers enhanced emergency coverage to pregnant women with obstetrical concerns. The OB ED assesses, treats, and discharges obstetrical patients and ensures that a specialist in high-risk obstetrics evaluates every patient to help improve patient safety. All pregnant women are seen by a board-certified obstetrical provider who evaluates her, and her baby’s condition.
The Women’s Hospital includes an advanced on-site Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is staffed around-the-clock by board certified neonatologists, specialty nurses, and respiratory therapists providing specialized care for infants born prematurely or with complications.
And later this summer, the Women’s Hospital will reveal the complete renovation of its Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum (LDRP) suites. The birthing suites offer patients the ability to labor, deliver and recover in the same spacious, private room. The suites have a spa-like ambiance with soft, natural light and beautiful amenities.
