MemorialCare’s Long Beach Medical Center, Orange Coast Medical Center, and Saddleback Medical Center have each earned the 2023 CNOR® Strong designation.

MemorialCare’s Long Beach Medical Center, Orange Coast Medical Center, and Saddleback Medical Center, have earned the 2023 CNOR® Strong designation from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI). This is the ninth year Orange Coast Medical Center has earned the CNOR Strong Designation, the fifth year Saddleback Medical Center, and the eighth year for Long Beach Medical Center.

“We are incredibly proud to have earned the CNOR Strong Designation system-wide for all of the adult-focused hospitals in our health system,” said Shela Kaneshiro, chief clinical transformation officer, MemorialCare. “Our nursing teams provide the highest standard of patient care, and this recognition is a testament to their hard work and dedication. This designation tells our patients that they are receiving care from some of the most skilled and knowledgeable perioperative nursing teams in the region.”

The CNOR Strong Designation is given to hospitals and medical centers having at least 50% of its operating room nursing staff CNOR certified and provides programs that reward and recognize its certified nurses. CNOR Strong is a program that recognizes health care organizations and individual nurses who have demonstrated their knowledge and expertise in perioperative (surgical) nursing. The CNOR credential is the gold standard for perioperative nurses, and the CNOR Strong Designation is only awarded to facilities and nurses who have a high number of CNOR certified staff and maintain a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

The CNOR Strong Designation is a rigorous evaluation process that requires health care organizations to demonstrate their commitment to ongoing professional development, patient safety and high-quality patient care. The process includes an assessment of the facilities’ perioperative nursing practices, as well as a review of their policies and procedures.

“In addition to earning the CNOR Strong Designation, Long Beach Medical Center, Orange Coast Medical Center, and Saddleback Medical Center have implemented several other initiatives to further enhance the quality of patient care,” says Kaneshiro. “These initiatives include the implementation of evidence-based practices, ongoing professional development for the nursing teams, and a strong commitment to patient safety.”

The perioperative nursing teams at these medical centers are highly trained and have extensive experience in providing care to patients undergoing surgery. They work closely with the surgical teams to ensure that each patient receives the best possible care. To support this, the nursing teams ensure the patient is educated on the procedure, so they are aware of what to expect before, during, and after surgery.

This prestigious recognition acknowledges the exceptional quality of care and services provided by these medical centers and highlights standards of excellence in patient care.
