Volunteers assist staff in the daily operation of the ER Department. The volunteer provides services that help maintain a friendly, calm and sympathetic atmosphere for patients and their families. Duties include photocopying, making beds and passing water, magazines and other comfort items. Must be a good communicator and be willing to have personable conversations with patients and their families. A well-organized person who can handle a high paced environment.

Volunteers operate delivery service and run errands within the hospital for all departments of the medical center; such as transporting patients in wheelchairs, delivering flowers, etc.

Volunteers must have good customer service skills, phone etiquette, and some retail experience. The volunteer will operate the cash register, administer correct change and follow accounting procedures. The volunteer will provide customer service and assist in gift selection, opening and closing of the gift shop, and complete daily deposits.

Volunteers make friendly visits to patients providing respite relief, companionship and emotional support for either family members or caregivers. Volunteers could be asked to run errands, grocery shop, prepare a meal, light housework, play cards, watch TV or read with the patient. They provide vigil with patients in their final hours. There is also a Legacy program that offers patients the opportunity to tell their life story and the volunteer transcribes the story in a written and recorded copy.

The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is a volunteer opportunity that serves every member of the Community. Patients receive one on one nonpharmacological interventions that reduce delirium, families receive support, and health care providers get the opportunity to learn and practice a tool kit they will use for the rest of their careers.

Volunteer serves as receptionists at information desk locations throughout the facility, directing visitors to areas in the hospital, answering telephones, giving information, receiving and coordinating deliveries for patients.

A desk will be provided but a majority of the duties will require the volunteer to be on his/her feet to assist.

Moderate Activity. Volunteer must provide a Canine Good Citizen Certificate issued by a representative of the American Kennel Club or Therapy Dogs International together with documentation of vaccinations etc. Visits will be held in acute care inpatient locations within the hospital.
