More than 600 MemorialCare employees, friends, and family gathered at the American Heart Association’s (AHA) OC Heart & Stroke Walk at Angel Stadium, supporting the centennial anniversary of AHA. A sponsor of the walk, physicians, staff and their family and friends came together from Saddleback Medical Center, Orange Coast Medical Center, Long Beach Medical Center, and MemorialCare Medical Group.

Dr. Yu-Ming Ni, a cardiologist from Orange Coast Medical Center, presented the Lifestyle Change Award, recognizing individuals who have made significant and positive changes to improve their quality of life and overall health. This year’s recipient was Nicholas Bolton – Nicholas lost 110 pounds by exercising regularly and following a strict diet of no added sugar or salt.

“It was truly an honor to speak at the opening ceremony of the OC Heart & Stroke Walk,” said Yu-Ming Ni M.D., cardiologist, MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Orange Coast Medical Center. “Seeing such strong community support for our fight against cardiovascular disease was really inspiring.”

Before the walk started, attendees could visit different booths to ask heart health questions, learn important support and nutrition information and participate in some fun activities — like a 360-photo booth. MemorialCare, as a sponsor, was able to reach and educate the community it serves.

In total, MemorialCare raised $18,286 through its teams located at each entity, almost doubling the original goal of $10,000. The generous support of the community will help support AHA’s vital research and initiatives and will help in our combined mission to improve the health and well-being of the community.
