Blood Donor Center Volunteer

Volunteers assist with decorating for events/holidays, blood drives, assemble packets, filing, phones, provide juice and snacks to blood donors.

Days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Shifts: 8 a.m. to 12 noon, 12 to 4 p.m.
*Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 12 noon, 12 to 4 p.m.

Concierge Service Volunteer

Volunteers assist at the Main Lobby and Pavilion Information desk to welcome and greets all guests with a smile as they arrive to our information centers. Collaborate with the Information Desk staff on how to assist patients and families with their immediate needs. Provides a quality, first impression experience. Guide/Escort patients and their families to their destination. Answers questions and provide information about dining, parking, shuttle service, calling taxis, restrooms, ATM machines, gift shop, pharmacy. Assists guests by carrying light weight items. Makes telephone calls to assist guest with their plans or their visit. Anticipate guest’s needs. Utilizes hospital service standards in all guest interactions.

*Requires 6-month commitment and must be over 18 years of age or older.

When: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Shifts: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Emergency Room Volunteer

Volunteers assist staff in the daily operation of the ER Department. Volunteer provides services that help maintain a friendly, calm and sympathetic atmosphere for patients and their families. Duties include photocopying, making beds and passing water, magazines and other comfort items. Must be a good communicator and be willing to have personable conversations with patients and their families. Well organized person who can handle a high paced environment.

Please note: Beginning September 1st this program will continue accepting applications. If you are interested in a volunteer assignment in the ER, please consider submitting your application at this time.

Shifts: Shift hours may vary at each medical center. For more information, please contact the Volunteer Office at the location nearest you.

General Service Room

Volunteers operate delivery service and run errands within the hospital; such as transporting patients in wheel chairs, departmental projects, and messenger services.  Assist staff with filing, photocopying, and collating educational materials/correspondence.

Guest Services Guide/Escort-to-Exit

Volunteers greet customers entering the hospital and direct/escort them to their destination within the hospital if necessary. Transport discharged patients (under the direction of the RN) from unit to exit.

Laboratory Services Volunteer

Assist with the following duties:

  • Transport the Airlink Tubes from Main lab to Critical Care Lab
  • Pickup and transport the samples from Critical Care Lab to Main Lab every two hours
  • Assist department with other duties as needed

Days: Monday - Friday
Shifts: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Volunteers can complete a minimum of 4 hours per shift or a maximum of 8 hours per shift.
*Evening hours available.

Tea Time at Two

Tea Time at Two is a volunteer program that supports our Patient and Family Centered Care philosophy by providing comfort to visiting friends and families. The Tea Time Volunteer will provide tea and cookies to the families in the waiting areas throughout the Long Beach Memorial.

Shifts
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
2pm – 3pm
