An Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) test uses Doppler ultrasound which is able to capture the movement of blood through your arteries. During an Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) the blood pressure in your legs is compared to the blood pressure in your arms. This comparison helps to determine circulation abnormalities in the legs to detect peripheral vascular disease (PVD). The test is performed at rest and may be repeated after a period of brief exercise, such as a five minute walk on a treadmill.
