Our Diabetes Clinic focuses on education and training, empowering you with management tools to take control of your diabetes.

Comprehensive Diabetes Education and Support

At our Diabetes Clinic, we understand the challenges you may face with diabetes. Led with compassion and experience, we help you gain the skills and knowledge needed to manage your diabetes. We provide practical management tools such as: 

  • Diabetes Self-Management and Education (DSME)
  • Community education classes taught by Certified Diabetes Educators 
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)
Self-Management and Education Program
Our Diabetes Education Program is an American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognized program that offers self-management and training. This program is taught by our registered nurses and registered dietitians who are Certified Diabetes Educators. You will meet one-on-one with educators as well as in small group classes to gain management tools such as:
  • Understanding the basics of diabetes
  • Outlining your unique meal plan (determined with a registered dietitian)
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Medication management
  • Incorporating physical activity (with an exercise physiologist)
  • Healthy coping strategies
  • Preventing and reducing risks for diabetes complications
  • Techniques to develop lifestyle behaviors

Diabetes Wellness Community Education

Attend our Diabetes Wellness Community Education Program to learn the latest trends and therapies in diabetes management, while giving and receiving support from others facing similar challenges. Offered in the evenings and covering a variety of topics, educational meetings are facilitated by a Certified Diabetes Educator and feature guest speakers as announced. 

Diabetes Wellness Community Education is free and open to the public. No registrations required.

All meetings are held at Saddleback Memorial-Laguna Hills, basement level in conference room 1. 

Upcoming Diabetes Wellness Education 

Sleep Apnea & Diabetes: Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common sleep disorder. It is estimated that 40% of those suffering from sleep apnea will also have diabetes. Come and discover the connection between the two conditions and how to treat both. 

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) helps you manage diabetes and associated symptoms through a therapeutic approach focusing on diet, nutrition and lifestyle modifications. Our nutrition philosophy centers on foods you can have and enjoy.

Our registered dietitians perform a comprehensive nutrition assessment examining your:

  • Weight
  • Height
  • BMI (body mass index)
  • Nutritional history and labs
We partner with you to improve your food choice skills leading to long-term positive results. Your progress will be assessed during your follow up visits.

Managing Diabetes During Pregnancy

Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby

Whether you had diabetes before pregnancy or developed it after you became pregnant, we can help. Based on your unique needs, our Certified Diabetes Educators partner with you to help control your diabetes and maintain a healthy pregnancy.

Designed after the Sweet Success Model of Care from the California Diabetes and Pregnancy Program, you will learn about:

  • Gestational diabetes
  • Blood glucose monitoring (meter provided)
  • Nutritional meal planning
  • Healthy coping strategies
  • Exercising while pregnant

Location and Parking

The Diabetes Clinic at the Heart and Wellness Center at Saddleback Memorial is located across the street from the Laguna Hills Mall with ample parking available making your visit convenient.  We are located in the black glass building on the second floor.
