Long Beach Memorial is a dedicated Stroke Receiving Center for Los Angeles County – providing patients with advanced treatment options and a highly trained stroke team is on-hand 24/7, making fast response times and positive outcomes a reality. The MemorialCare Stroke Center is certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission, which seeks to improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public. The Joint Commission certifies that approved programs like the MemorialCare Stroke Center at Long Beach Memorial follow national standards and guidelines to improve outcomes for patients.
Get with the Guidelines—Stroke Program
Long Beach Memorial has joined with the “Get with the Guidelines—Stroke” program from the American Stroke Association to provide the most current and effective procedures to improve the overall quality of care for first-time stroke patients and treatments for those who have a history of stroke. The program employs proven, evidence-based treatment guidelines—including those developed by the American Stroke Association, American Heart Association and Brain Attack Coalition.
Stroke Program Awarded Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award
Long Beach Memorial's stroke program has achieved the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines®
Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. This award demonstrates Long Beach Memorial's commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence based guidelines. To receive the award, Long Beach Memorial achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved compliance in nine of 10 Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care. These measures include aggressive use of medications, such as tPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, DVT prophylaxis, cholesterol reducing drugs and smoking cessation, all aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients. Neuroscience Care Team
The neuroscience department at Long Beach Memorial is home to certified neuroscience registered nurses (CNRN) who have demonstrated their dedication to professional development by passing the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing CNRN certification exam.CNRNs have made a commitment to lifelong learning and to providing the latest, most effective patient care and safety to the patients in the neuro/stroke programs at Long Beach Memorial – making the neuroscience department one of the area's best.
In recognition of the quality care provided by the neuroscience care team and their commitment to following national guidelines set by the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association and Brain Attack Coalition, the stroke program at Long Beach Memorial is a dedicated stroke receiving center for Los Angeles County, has been named a Primary Stroke Center by Joint Commission and received the American Stroke Association's Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award.
