Pulmonary Rehabilitation (Outpatient)
Pulmonary rehabilitation at Long Beach Memorial is an outpatient program designed to help persons with chronic breathing disorders gain better control over breathing and improve their pulmonary health. Long Beach Memorial has a multidisciplinary team specializing in pulmonary rehabilitation working to improve the quality of each participant's life through careful assessment of each individuals needs, appropriate setting of goals, and intensive therapy and training. The team provides intensive exercise, education, self-management training and psychosocial support under the medical direction of a board certified pulmonologist (lung specialist).
Studies have proven that persons with chronic lung disease who complete a pulmonary rehabilitation program experience a decrease in pulmonary symptoms, hospital and emergency room visits and lead a more active lifestyle.
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Long Beach Memorial is designed to address the difficult challenges facing individuals including shortness of breath, decreased strength and endurance, reduced energy levels, reduced self-esteem and ability to care for oneself. These challenges can often lead to fear, anxiety, depression and isolation.
