Ultrasound
Ultrasound, also know as echocardiogram. is a painless exam that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture internal images of the body, including the heart and vascular system. A special jelly is placed on the area being examined while a wand-like device called a transducer is moved around. Internal images of the area show on a screen and can be recorded as a video and printed as a photo. This painless test lasts about 15–20 minutes. Ultrasound can show plaque buildup in arteries and help detect coronary artery disease (CAD) and peripheral vascular disease (PVD).
