The Diabetes Clinic at Saddleback Memorial compliments the medical management of diabetes through an innovative series of classes which provides instruction on self-management skills to allow one to be in control of diabetes.
Diabetes self-management training includes:
- Individual assessment of education needs.
- Explanation of diabetes medication management.
- Blood glucose monitoring.
- Nutritious meal planning.
- Exercise.
- Management of acuteand long term complications.
- Skills to promote lifestyle changes.
The Saddleback Memorial Diabetes Clinic is the only diabetes education program in Saddleback Valley that is recognized by the American Diabetes Association. The program follows the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education as defined by the ADA.
The Diabetes Clinic also offers an education program providing information and training to pregnant women with diabetes and women who have preexisting diabetes who are seeking preconception planning for healthy pregnancies in the future. Saddleback Memorial in Laguna Hills offers education and training for insulin pumps and continuous glucose sensors.
A physician's referral is required for participation in any of these programs. Most insurance plans will cover diabetes education.
