Emergency Room Volunteers

Volunteers assist staff in the daily operation of the ER Department. A volunteer provides services that help maintain a friendly, calm and sympathetic atmosphere for patients and their families. Duties include photocopying, making beds and passing water, magazines and other comfort items. Must be a good communicator and be willing to have personable conversations with patients and their families. A well-organized person who can handle a high paced environment.

Requirements: Must be over 18 years of age or older

Gift Shop Volunteer

Volunteers must have good customer service skills, phone etiquette, and some retail experience. The volunteer will operate the cash register, administer correct change and follow accounting procedures. The volunteer will provide customer service and assist in gift selection, opening and closing of the gift shop, and complete daily deposits.

Note: Shift may vary at each medical center.

Hospice - Companion Visits

Volunteers make friendly visits to patients providing respite relief, companionship and emotional support for either family members or caregivers. Volunteers could be asked to run errands, grocery shop, prepare a meal, light housework, play cards, watch TV or read with the patient. They provide vigil with patients in their final hours. There is also a Legacy program that offers patients the opportunity to tell their life story and the volunteer transcribes the story in a written and recorded copy.

Visits are in patient’s homes, board and cares and assisted living facilities.

Hospice - Hairdresser

Volunteers provide basic haircuts to patients on as needed bases.

Hospice - Pet Therapy

Volunteers must have appropriate certification through a recognized Pet Therapy Association and should have an extroverted, mature, friendly, helpful personality and be willing to have personable conversations with staff, visitors and patients. Must have a warm and outgoing personality and must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.

Shifts: 1 – 2 hours

Hospice - Pet Therapy Assistant

The volunteer will personally assist and escort Pet Therapy Teams into rooms, tracking visitors and hand sanitizing. The volunteer should have an extroverted, mature, friendly, helpful personality and be willing to have personable conversations with staff, visitors and patients. Must have a warm and outgoing personality and must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.

Hospitality Desk Greeter

Volunteer works as a receptionist in the lobby, directing visitors and other persons to different areas of the hospital and escorting customers to their destination. It is important that this volunteer addresses all visitors, customers and patients and ensures everyone is approached and taken care of. This volunteer should have an extroverted, mature, friendly, helpful personality with the ability to maintain composure in a high paced environment. Must have a warm and outgoing personality and must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.

Outpatient Physical Therapy Volunteer

Volunteer assists with clerical tasks, equipment, escorting patients to and from therapy sessions. This volunteer needs to be friendly, people-oriented, and be able to stand for long periods of time. A desk will be provided but a majority of the duties will require the volunteer to be on his/her feet to assist.

Patient Care Units Volunteer

Volunteer assists patients by providing a friendly visitor to the patient and their families. Duties include passing water, magazines and other comfort items as well as assisting patients on how to use the interactive entertainment system Skylight. Volunteer assists unit by restocking gloves, doing clerical work at the unit desk and running general unit errands. Volunteers must be a self-confident, mature, responsible person who can maintain a positive and pleasant attitude around ill patients. Must be a good communicator and be willing to have personable conversations with patients and their families. Volunteers must be comfortable entering patient rooms and must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.

Wayfinder

Volunteer works hand in hand with the Hospitality Desk and personally escorts the customer to their destination. Must have a warm and outgoing personality and must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. This job will require mobility. A desk will be provided but a majority of the duties will require the volunteer to be on his/her feet to assist and direct.
