In the last 10 years, 10% of California’s Emergency Rooms have closed, causing a 20% increase in patient visits for all other hospitals (Source: Public Policy Institute of California).
With even more recent closures in Orange County, it is critical that we be prepared to accept more patients in years to come. To continue to meet our growing population’s need for prompt, exceptional emergency care, Orange Coast Medical Center is embarking on a major expansion of our Emergency Department. The result will be a new Emergency Pavilion, twice the size of our current facility.
The Emergency Pavilion, expanding from 4980 square feet to 11,400 square feet, will add 5 “fast-track” stations as well as bedside registration to help reduce wait times. These improvements will double our capacity and enhance patient privacy.
Our Emergency Department staff is excitedly awaiting the ground-breaking.
“We can’t wait! We are all looking forward to the new Emergency Pavilion,” shared Emergency Department manager Efren Grospe who has been an RN for 35 years.
“We have been so busy and we keep getting busier, having more room will make a huge difference.” Jeff Lung, RN in the Emergency Department, agreed. “The biggest reason we are excited about the new ED is that we will have more resources to meet the expanding community needs. It’s amazing that people are giving generously to build a bigger, better emergency room.”
In 2015, we treated 32,757 people in our Emergency Department - an average of 90 a day.
