Patients at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Team Up with Hyundai to Leave Their Mark on the Battle Against Childhood Cancer

LONG BEACH, Calif. – July 9, 2010 – Childhood cancer patients and their families who have received treatment at the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach joined local Hyundai dealers on Wednesday for Hyundai’s Hope on Wheels™ - a national effort to raise awareness about childhood cancer and celebrate the lives of children who are battling with cancer and those that have made a recovery.

Local Hyundai representatives presented Jerry Finklestein, MD, medical director of the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center, with a check for $40,000 to support the Miller Children’s childhood cancer research projects.

After the check ceremony, the patients were able to put their handprints on the Hyundai Santa Fe and leave a colorful mark on the car. The handprints commemorate the battles of children fighting cancer. “Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach is extremely grateful for Hyundai’s donation,” says Dr. Finklestein. “It will move our research projects closer to our goal – ending childhood cancer. I know that our patients are very grateful as well.”
