Saddleback Memorial Medical Center-San Clemente Appoints New Administrator

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif.—Saddleback Memorial Medical Center-San Clemente has announced the hiring of Tony Struthers as the new hospital administrator. He will oversee day-to-day operations, strategic direction and physician development.

Struthers brings more than 25 years of healthcare experience and is a long-term local resident of San Clemente. He previously served in administration at the hospital for eight years when it was a for-profit facility with out-of-state ownership, prior to being purchased by not-for-profit MemorialCare Health Systems in 2005.

“I look forward to overseeing the growth of the hospital as we continue to see more and more patients. I will be working closely with existing management and physicians to implement new services to better serve our community,” says Struthers. “I am proud to work with locally-based MemorialCare. Struthers has previously served as president of both the San Clemente Rotary as well as the Chamber of Commerce and says he looks forward to becoming active again in these organizations. He was also recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club in San Clemente.

After leaving the hospital in 1998, Struthers managed hospitals in Albuquerque, N.M. and Phoenix before returning to the San Clemente area in 2008 as a financial advisor for Burns Investment. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He replaces Liz Bear who accepted a position with HealthySmiles, another local not-for-profit organization.
