LONG BEACH MEMORIAL AND MILLER CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL LONG BEACH INSTALL THE MOST ADVANCED MEDICAL IMAGING SYSTEM AVAILABLE – TOSHIBA’S AQUILION ONE DYNAMIC VOLUME CT

October 24, 2011

As a testament to the growing demand to improve patient care while reducing health care costs, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. has installed the AquilionTM ONE dynamic volume CT system at Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach.

“As the only dynamic volume CT system in the world, the Aquilion ONE’s ability to image an entire organ and show function means faster, more accurate diagnosis, better patient outcomes and ultimately lower health care costs,” explained Gabriel Vorobiof, M.D., medical director, non-invasive cardiology and cardiac imaging, MemorialCare Heart and Vascular Institute at Long Beach Memorial.

Toshiba’s Aquilion ONE dynamic volume CT system utilizes 320 ultra-high resolution detector rows (0.5 mm in width) to image an entire organ in a single gantry rotation. Dynamic volume has the ability to produce a 4D clinical video showing up to 16 cm of anatomical coverage, enough coverage to capture the entire brain or heart, and show its movement such as blood flow.

“The Aquilion ONE provides a uniquely comprehensive exam that dramatically reduces diagnosis time from hours and days to just mere minutes for patients experiencing stroke, serious heart conditions and other life-threatening diseases,” added Dr. Vorobiof. “For our patients, detecting and treating disease at its earliest stages can significantly improve their quality of life and help lower overall health care costs.”

In addition, the Aquilion ONE’s single, comprehensive exam can provide physicians with data to replace a variety of duplicative tests and invasive procedures.

“Toshiba designed the Aquilion ONE for today’s health care environment,” said Joseph Cooper, director, CT Business Unit, Toshiba. “By replacing several tests with this single exam, the Aquilion ONE will allow physicians to treat at-risk patients immediately – saving resources and time for both health care facilities and patients.”

With Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach located on the same campus as Long Beach Memorial, our health care providers understand the importance of technology designed for the pediatric market, with the Aquilion ONE capturing up to 16 cm in a single rotation, the amount of radiation a patient receives is reduced which lessens the need for sedation. The volume acquisition mode of the Aquilion ONE exposes patients to less radiation, providing safer pediatric exams.

“With its features for the pediatric market, we now can offer a CT exam designed for our smallest patients,” says Dr. Vorobiof.
