Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center recently announced that the MemorialCare Breast Center at Orange Coast is just the second program in Orange County to be awarded a three-year full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

“We are extremely proud of this prestigious recognition by the NAPBC,” said Marcia Manker, CEO at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. “This accreditation is validation of the expertise and dedication of our multidisciplinary team and our commitment to providing the highest quality of care for our breast cancer patients.”

During the on-site survey process, the MemorialCare Breast Center at Orange Coast demonstrated complete compliance with all 27 standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. The NAPBC accreditation recognizes the MemorialCare Breast Center at Orange Coast’s commitment to offer patients every significant advantage in the battle against breast disease. The Breast Center is comprised of highly trained specialists including: Homayoon Sanati, M.D., medical director; Jane Kakkis, M.D., medical director of breast surgery; Julio Ibarra, M.D., medical director of breast pathology; Richard Reitherman, M.D., medical director of breast imaging; and Bichlien Nguyen, M.D., medical director of breast cancer research.
